Duel core is definitely the way to go as far as Video cards, your talking some serious speed depending on the type of card check into it.

Intel Blurs GPU, Preparing for a Vista Vs. Video Card Duel
(Page 1 of 4 )

Intel has a new trick to get the most of out of lower quality video cards, like their integrated graphics. Their recent patent filing suggests that Intel is at the drawing board trying to design cheap solutions to rendering high quality 3D desktops, like those promised in future operating systems. To render the video, the chipmaker has planned a smoothing technology to lower framerates.

Check out the pic in this link instead of a single chipset you will see two. These are available for AMD and Intel. If they do what they say it should be worth looking into.

I have been an AMD fan for may years. after doing some research for myself, the higher end Intel Core 2 duo chips really do out perform AMDs higher end. I'll see if i can find the review/comparison again, it had a really good speed to cost ratio for all the processors they tested (about a dozen)

for the $600 price range (cnd) i would buy an intel chip rather then AMD but thats just my opinion

I'm an AMD fan, i did alot of benchmarking when i was in IT and AMD for the price to processor ratio is farther ahead. But where you really want to spend your money is the video card, EQ seams to work better with Gforce than with ATI.

Spend a couple hundred dollars on the motherboard and processor and then spend the same on the video card you will be way ahead.

Last year I would have said AMD (heck I bought one) but this year I'd say Intel... Depends how much you want to spend I guess. AMD are probably better price per performance if you want a budget system but for something that would last, I'd go with core 2 duo.

Check Tom's Hardware, great site.
Last 2 years, AMD was way better for gaming systems. Right now it's Intel.
